band
the sound
emotional vocals, electronic beats and atmospheric guitars are the trademarks of soon is now (short: sin.). they do not care about current trends, but to present songs with depth. rockszene.de wrote: “soon is now is truly great. their hybrid-pop with electronic support is incredibly intense again and again. no music lover should be able to miss out on this. (…) for listeners who enjoy border crossing”.
the story
soon is now was founded in 2005 by men well known in the hanover music scene. andreas von kessinger (bass), ernie schadow (drums) and kolja schwab (guitar) met to jam. back then they already played kolja’s idea of “follow”, which would lateremerge as the first soon is now-song and title of the first demo-ep. at that time ernie and kolja played together in the indie rock band “kanu.”. andreas and ernie had supported rapper cram on his tour supporting “5 sterne deluxe”. the quintet was completed by kai hornung (vocals) and arman gregor (keyboards). they were from a band called sonic front, a well known hanover band that found attention in the u.s. after airplay on kusf. sadly the band called it quits after the tragic death of guitarist christoph renne.
the five members of soon is now were experienced live musicians and soon realized they did match very well, not just musically. and so something very special began to emerge. soon is now was born.
the album
in march 2011 soon is now release their debut album “passing by” . they do it on their own without any labelhelp. the album was produced by willi dammeier and arman gregor at the institut für wohlklangforschung, hanover.
the drums for the album were recorded by krösus at glockseestudio in 2009. guitars, bass and keyboards were recorded at home by every respective band member. vocals were recorded in the band´s rehearsal room. working on “passing by” took more than one and a half years. the band´s ‘do-it-yourself’ approach but mostly needing to change producers twice led to frustrating delays.
the album contains songs such as the driving “traveling through snow”, “starracer” and “sorryful” the latter already being one of the fan-favorites during sin.concerts. the epic, prog-rock reminiscent “sad movies” fittingly closes out the album. two interludes (one in german language) divide the atmospheric and very homogeneous album in 3 chapters.
